Clayton Oates

Clayton Oates is a respected leader in the Accounting, Bookkeeping, and Technology community in Australia and internationally. With over 30 years of experience across public practice, industry, and software consulting, he has helped thousands of professionals and small business owners improve their systems and reclaim time through smarter use of technology. After earning a Business (Accounting) degree from Monash University, Clayton began his career at Price Waterhouse before moving into industry and then joining Rutherford’s (now part of Findex) in Northern NSW. In 1997, he founded QA Business, a software advisory firm that has since supported over 50,000 small businesses and their advisors. In recognition of his expertise and commitment to the Reckon community, Clayton was named Reckon Accredited Partner of the Year in 2023.
Clayton was the first Australian named among the Top 25 Thought Leaders in the Accounting Profession by CPA Practice Advisor (USA), an honour he received annually from 2015 to 2025. He is a passionate and engaging speaker, regularly invited to share his insights at business and technology events around the world, where he champions innovation and positive change in the profession.
